Group Sessions

Ongoing Groups

Social Language Groups assist children experiencing difficulties with socialising and would benefit from additional behavioural support in social skills and language. Children are grouped by age and ability to relate to others’ perspectives. The groups learn and practise social communication skills together, enhancing their language in a comfortable environment.

The actual skills targeted during sessions will be explicitly based on the needs of the children and divided into the following:

  • Little Speechie (children between the ages 2 & 3): turn-taking, waiting, joint attention, pretend play, making requests

  • Social Speechie (children between the ages 3 and 4): turn-taking, sharing, joint attention, pretend play, making requests, making comments

  • Advanced Speechie (children between the ages 6 and 8): initiating interactions, asking and answering questions, topic maintenance, playing games with rules, role play

  • Super Speechie (children aged 8+): initiating interactions, asking and answering questions, topic maintenance, playing games with rules, role play and perspective-taking

The following groups will be starting in November 2023. If you have any questions or want to book a consultation with one of our SLG leaders, please email info@taascmalta.com. Alternatively, kindly complete the following referral form to express your interest in the groups:

Group Play Therapy provides children with similar difficulties with a safe environment to grow together through semi-structured activities. Groups are organized based on children’s common experiences or current issues. Individual children may be selectively chosen depending on background factors such as age and gender, where appropriate. Group Play Therapy is typically made up of 6 to 8 weekly sessions of 40 minutes each.

Group Play therapy can have several aims, including coping with bereavement, dealing with divorce or parental separation, managing anxiety, improving social skills and peer relationships, witnessing domestic violence or abuse, and adjusting to current events.

You can also request a group on another topic which you feel will benefit your child. The sessions are run by Ms Martina Fenech, a Play Therapist, certified by the PTUK - The UK Society for Play and Creative Arts Therapies.

You can send an email to info@taascmalta.com for more information. The sessions can be held both at TAASC or off-site within a school setting.
