Maya Dowling has 8+ years in the teaching industry both in Malta and the UK, with 5+ years working directly with children who have additional needs. Having graduated from the University of Malta as a Teacher of English, Maya worked for two years in a Maltese government school where she supported the Core Competence Program both in education and mentoring. During this time, she developed a passion for working and supporting students with additional needs.
In 2016, Maya moved to London where she started work as a Special Educational Needs teacher, and was later promoted to a Special Needs Coordinator for an Inner London School. Maya has worked with children, families and professionals to support children and young people with additional needs for 5+ years. Whilst in the post of a Special Educational Needs Coordinator she has utilised her passion for teaching, management and SEN support to create high-impact strategies and support allowing SEN children and young people to make tangible progress, whilst ensuring the requirements of the SEN Code of Practice are met. As a secondary school Special Educational Needs Coordinator, she is tasked with identifying, evaluating and securing appropriate provisions for the most vulnerable children in her setting.
During her time working with SEN students Maya has acquired a number of qualifications to further advance her professional development including a Postgraduate Certificate in National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination from UCL; Level 3 Award in Speech and Language Support for 11-16s from Elklan; a Foundation Course in Signalong Phase 1; SoSafe! Training and Sound Training.
Maya is planned to officially join the TAASC team later this year and is conducting thought-provoking talks and workshops in the meantime.
