Dr Muscat graduated as a doctor in 1993 and worked in Psychiatry and Hospital Administration before training as a psychiatrist at SUNY Buffalo and Yale University in the USA, where he also specialised further in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, that is the management of people who have medical problems as well as psychiatric difficulties. Since 2004, Dr Muscat has worked in various services in Malta, including the Child Guidance Clinic, St Luke’s Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital and for 10 years at Mater Dei Hospital with inpatients admitted for various medical reasons. Since November 2018, Dr Muscat has been working full time in private practice.
The founding president of the Maltese Association of Psychiatry (MAP), Dr Muscat remains committed to raising the profile of mental health and the standard of patient care at various clinical and institutional levels. This is why he is committed to a multidisciplinary team where every professional is an equal team member with their own unique skills, and this is also his vision for TAASC.
