Nigel Camilleri studied medicine and surgery at the University of Malta where he was awarded an MD in 2003. He then started practicing medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital, Malta and eventually began his psychiatric training at Mount Carmel Hospital, Malta in 2006. In 2008 he moved to Newcastle, UK and continued his training in psychiatry in the North East of England.
Since 2015 Dr Camilleri has been a committed Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Mount Carmel as well as St James Hospital, Malta. Within Mount Carmel Hospital he holds the title of Consultant Psychiatrist as well as the Clinical Lead for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This follows his work as a consultant psychiatrist in an Adolescent In-patient and Adolescent Forensic In-patient Unit in Middlesborough, UK, and as a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust at the Child and Family Department in County Durham. He is also an Associate Clinical Researcher at Newcastle University, currently working with their Paediatric Bipolar Disorder Team on research projects in this field.
He has recently been awarded an MD from Newcastle University, the UK for his research, which consisted of the initial study and 2-year follow-up on a cohort of young people who attended a community mental health team compared with a control group. Dr Camilleri is also a Uk-Certified ADOS-2 Trainer.
Nigel is the clinical lead within TAASC.
